Restoring Your Health
A Healthy Heart = A Healthy Mind
A healthy heart benefits all of your body's system and functions. In fact there is a growing body of scientific evidence linking heart health with long term brain health. In a study performed at the University of Minnesota heart health in middle age was linked to brain health in later life. Researchers collected 3 years of data from 11,151 participants, ranging in ages from 46 to 70 years old. The study tracked the relationship between the heart health and the incidence of dementria.
Not surprisingly, those with healthier hearts were less likely to develop dementria. These findings add to a growing body of evidence linking cardiovascular risk factors and risk for dementria, and they point to a need for long term prevention efforts.Heart Health Linked to Dementia

HEART HEALTH LINKED TO DEMENTRIA
Heart Health in middle age is linked to brain health in later life, finds a study led bby SPH assistant Professor Alvaro Alonso.
Researchers looked at the association between cardiovascular risk factor--smoking, high blood pressure, and diabetes--and risk of hospitalization for dementia. Data was collected from 1990 to 1992 from 11,151 participants, 46 to 70 years old. The research team tracked participants until 2004 to see how many were hospitalized for dementia
Smokers were 70 percent more likely to develop dementia than nonsmokers; those with high blood pressure were 60 percent more likely; and those with diabetes were twice as likely as those without diabetes to develop dementia. There was no link between midlife obesity and later dementia.
The findings add to a growing body of evidence linking cardiovascular risk factors and risk for dementia, and they point to a need for long-term prevention efforts.
